Surge Management Team

The North of England Commissioning Support Unit, on behalf of the North East and North Cumbria CCGs operates a whole systems approach to managing pressures e.g. pressures over winter.

The North of England Commissioning Support Unit, on behalf of the North East and North Cumbria CCGs operates a whole systems approach to managing pressures e.g. pressures over winter.  This includes supporting staff on call and establishing a command and control hub to support the daily operational management of surge.  This team is called the Resilience, Planning, Escalation and Surge Management team and carries out the following activities:

  • Providing support to CCGs across the North East and North Cumbria in-hours and arranging CCG out of hours on-call
  • Working with regulators during winter to act upon providers’ performance reports as required
  • Monitoring and reporting on pressures using the Flight Deck and UEC RAIDR-App
  • Coordinating and facilitating regional events to share lessons learned, innovation and best practice (event examples include; Winter Debrief and Masterclass)
  • Project working alongside the UEC Network to deliver regional solutions, currently OPEL triggers and regional policies
